Victory over Violence APD Team Award In 2013, APD was honored as having the largest team during the Victory Over Violence 5k and 1K Walk/Run hosted by the Women’s Center. Over 90,000 people are served annually by the Women’s Center through counseling, employment and educational programs. 2013 Texas Police Games Honor Officer Barry Samples received Gold Medals in Track and Field at the Texas Police Games held in Houston, Texas. This is an annual event conducted by the Texas Police Athletic Federation to place an emphasis on cardiovascular health within the law enforcement profession. 6th Most Friendly Police Department on Social Media APD was honored as the 6th Most Friendly Police Department on Social Media out of the 50th largest cities in America. The award is based upon how responsive departments are with citizen engagement and the types of content posted to social media platforms. 2013 Most Innovative Use of Social Media The Arlington Police Department’s Media Office was awarded the Most Innovative Use of Social Media for the second consecutive year in a row. In 2013, the department was honored by the Center for Digital Government based upon the bi-weekly Inside APD video show that is produced entirely in-house by staff. Traffic Safety Award Traffic DWI Officer Stacie Brown was on hand in Austin last year to accept the 2013 Municipal Traffic Safety Initiative Award based upon several projects that assisted judges in selecting Arlington.
