The Panel: Chris Beno ConAm Colorado FRESH TAKE ON MAINTENANCE: Darrin Sullivan Greystar Real Estate Stories, Insights & Challenges Long-time industry experts sit down with VP of Communications Christopher Dean to discuss their maintenance experience. Christopher Dean (AAMD): How did you first hear about maintenance as a career? What was your first job? Chris did. I was living in a place and I had some extra time and they offered me a position as like a paint prep guy. Chris Beno: I was paying my rent and the manager offered me a job. AAMD: So you just got paid to prep? Darrin Sullivan: I was in college and needed a job and had an uncle in the business, a family member. Jeff Harmon: I started out in the hotel industry and the manager of the Marriott at the time got into the industry and then I tagged along with her. Lannon Quintana: I was a school dork, straight A’s my whole life, had a wrestling scholarship, and then right after my senior year, I tore up my shoulder and all the plans I had made were gone. So I got a job in the Aurora Mall selling shoes and became friends with one of my customers. He was in maintenance and said they had a beginning position open. I was all for it, not because I wanted to do the work, but because I could get my own apartment! Troy Boyd: I kind of started off the same way www.aamdhq.org Troy: Yes, for like doorknobs and outlets and covers and stuff like that and then when the paint was done I put it all back on. That is how I got started as a part-time thing. Jeff Harmon Legacy Partners Troy Boyd Inland Residential Chris: I started as a grounds/maintenance supervisor on a small community so I basically did everything including walking units for tours on leases. AAMD: Did you have a job at the time that you basically quit to continue this? Dean Trujilo Colorado Golf & Turf Lannon: I was selling shoes, however I worked both jobs until The Athletes Foot went out of business.
