CAPITOL RECAP nancy burke | colorado apartment association State Capitol Day Draws Over 100 Attendees C olorado Apartment Association members had the opportunity to meet with several state legislators during the annual State Capitol Day. “Politics and Pizza” kicked off the event over lunch at the Capitol Hill Tavern. The lunch was just the beginning of the government affairs focused day. The event was held in conjunction with NAIOP and ICSC Wednesday, February 24th. Several attendees participated in a tour of the Capitol shortly after the lunch. After the tour, attendees headed to the legislator reception at the University Club just a couple blocks from of the Capitol. Over 100 attendees were able to network with legislators and discuss Colorado’s real estate market. Representatives of each industry group, including Nancy Burke, VP of Government and Community Affairs of the Colorado Apartment Association, were able to share information about proposed legislation that is currently in the process under the gold dome. Joint Legislative Council Chair, Stephanie Avery of Roundhill Pacific spoke to the group about upcoming legislation concerning companion animal registration abuse and rent control. She stated that Roundhill Pacific is headquartered in Senator Lundberg addresses attendees during the Legislator Reception at State Capitol Day. Nancy Burke, VP of Government Affairs, CAA and Stephanie Avery, JLAC Chair, of Roundhill Pacific are focused on his message. San Francisco and she knows first-hand, the damage that rent control can present to a market. She stressed to legislators in the audience to not pass rent control bills. Legislators that attended also had a chance to share information on the bills they were sponsoring or supporting this session. Elected officials in attendance included: Senators Baumgardner, Marble, Holbert, Tate, Crowder, Garcia, Lundberg, Martinez-Humenik, Scheffel, Representatives Brown, Conti, Buck, Everett, Gi- nal, Joshi, Landgraf, Leonard, Lundeen, Moreno, Willet, and Windholz. With the legislative session nearly at the half way point, the event served as a great conduit to share recent multifamily housing market place dynamics with state elected officials.
