Saving the Industry $83 Million T hrough strategic endeavors and unyielding negotiations to combat proposed adverse legislative measures, the Association’s Government Affairs team prevailed, saving the multifamily industry over $83 million dollars…over $462 dollars per unit! The Government Affairs team aptly lessened the financial and administrative impacts, with guidance and directive from the Joint Legislative Advisory Council, on select bills from over 600 legislative proposals this past year at the State Capitol and local government measures. Your Association’s Government Affairs Team conducted research to create solid talking points, orchestrated action with contract lobby teams, pursued legal options though counsel and strategized on well positioned communications with our public relations firm and public relations committee. Additionally, this year the Government Affairs staff participated in over 1200 meetings with elected officials and community leaders to promote multifamily housing industry dynamics. Through the AAMD Alliance, staff advanced funding levels in recent elections totaling over $200,000. Though numerous candidate interviews, the Government Affairs Team touted a 94% select rate on candidate wins. The Government Affairs Team continues to focus on enhancing media and community relations and is proactively creating affordable housing assistance community investment programs.
