Federal and State Legislative Luncheon Draws Big Crowd
Nearly 100 members of AAMD and CAA gathered to hear a federal and state legislative overview . last month . With the recent election , and an administration change at the national level , many were curious to hear how the election results would impact the multifamily housing industry .
Sr . Vice President of the National Apartment Association , Greg Brown , spoke on the Trump administration priorities which included Trade , Energy , Immigration , National Security and the focus on eliminating overreaching regulation in many areas . He also spoke about Dr . Ben Carson taking the reins at Department of Housing and Urban Development ( HUD ). Other federal issues of concern and that will be lobbied during the annual Capitol Conference in Washington

D . C ., March 5-8 includes ADA Reform , maintaining the funding for the National Flood Insurance Program , and Tax Reform .
Erin Goff of Axiom Strategies - our state lobbyist and Nancy Burke , VP of Government Affairs of the Colorado Apartment Association provided an overview , of expectations for the upcoming 2017 Colorado General Assembly . Aside from the reoccurring rumblings of rent control measures , we are also expecting legislation to provide process servers entry to access restricted apartment communities , lengthening time on month to month leases for notice to vacate and rent increases , energy efficiencies , renter ’ s bill of rights , and on top of that , we are likely to see numerous bills concerning affordable housing .
