CAROL AND JEFF LUINSTRA ON BEHALF OF TOM LUINSTRA
Tom Luinstra
BY RHONDA HANSCH
From time to time there is that special
someone who leaves an indelible mark in
their realm of the world and Tom Luinstra was
certainly one of those individuals.
Tom and his family moved to Colorado from
Kansas in the early 1970’s and right away Tom
became an active member of our industry.
He joined AAMD in 1971 and opened Apartment Finders International
which he developed into a successful Colorado front-range apartment
leasing service that was nationally recognized.
SARAH MALONE (CENTER) ACCEPTS AWARD FROM CAROL LEVEY AND MARY WESSLER
Sarah Malone
BY MARY WESSLER & CAROL LEVEY
Sarah started in the industry in 1975 working for Urban
Properties and then in 1988 went to the supplier side and
worked as a Vice President at For Rent until she retired
in 2011. She was President of the National Supplier’s
Council in 1999 and won the NAA Paragon Award. She is
also a receipient of the prestigious Jack Shapiro Award.
Sarah is most known for her incredible contributions to the
supplier of the Association and her strong representation
at both the local and national level.
One could say Tom was stubborn, and even at times difficult to
deal with it, especially when it came to protecting the reputation
and livelihood of his company Apartment Finders International, but
speaking from experience, once you took the time to get to know Tom
as a person, he was a genuine and caring individual.
However, we know her on a more personal basis and can
say that during her 36 years in the industry, Sarah was
always a person with great integrity, a hard worker and
she could always be counted on. Sarah also has a fun
side and you could always count on her smile.
Tom was one of the original and staunch supporters of the AAMD
Vacancy Survey and was active with Family Homestead. Tom loved
to golf, fly his Beechcraft Bonanza airplane and he especially loved
red cars. In 2011, Tom lost his battle to pancreatic cancer, and we
were happy to present his wife Carol and son Jeff with his Hall of
Fame award.
And we all know why she really retired, and that was to
play golf and travel! Congratulations, Sarah!
