AORE Association News September 2015 | Page 4

From the President

I began my relationship with The AORE in the fall of 2000 at the Annual Conference hosted by Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I was a first year graduate assistant. Since that time, I have collected a network of friends that have been invaluable resources to me, I've been inspired to try new things in my program, and I had the opportunity to develop leadership skills by serving on the AORE Climbing Wall Committee and Board of Directors.

This is what AORE does. I know of many stories of members who have found camaraderie, answers to problems, and new ideas through The Association. Some members have chosen to serve. Patsy Kott was one such member. In the last issue of this newsletter Tim Moore eulogized Patsy in his article, “A Celebration of Life.” Tim stated, “We will miss you dear friend, but we’ll remember your joy in seeing students and young professionals develop a passion for outdoor recreation and education.”

Since that time I am very happy to report that the Awards Committee recommended a service award named for Patsy, which the Board of Directors approved.

So many years ago in Oxford, I developed a passion for outdoor recreation and education. I can’t wait to see the same passion budding in a new generation in Atlanta.

Sincerely,

Guy B. deBrun
