AORE Association News October/November 2018 | Page 4

Hello fellow outdoor enthusiasts!

It is great to get a chance to share with you some of the work that is happening to help guide our association forward and to increase the impact and support you get as a member.

AORE is the premier association in the outdoor profession and it is our intention to provide opportunities for professionals and students to connect, work to help preserve the natural environment, address issues common to our programs, and the opportunity for better understanding of where we fit in the greater outdoor industry.

Over the past year the Board has been working, with LaPiana consulting, on the next Strategic Plan (2020-2025). This has been invigorating and exciting work in that we have been able to take a close look at where AORE is currently, and what opportunities we have to grow and be stronger as an advocate for you and your program.

This work has pointed us to a need to provide additional representation in the outdoor industry on matters that affect you. Essentially we are looking closely at what we, AORE, can do to “occupy the intersection of the outdoor industry and outdoor recreation and education.” When we are able to work towards this, we will be seen as a significant resource and player in the greater industry and we will be able to increase the support and advocacy for all aspects of what each of you do for your organization, community, and the outdoors.

In pursuing this, we will look to serve as the primary resource for current and aspiring professional who facilitate transformative outdoor experiences and will champion the advancement of outdoor recreation and education. One aspect that this could allow us to support in better ways is a better understanding and sharing of the full suite of professional opportunities that are available in the outdoor industry. No matter if you are one that wants to be a guide, run the marketing campaign, manage the financials, or be a director of an outdoor program, and regardless of your position or how long you have been working in the industry, AORE is the place for you to connect, learn, grow, and succeed.

This is all possible with you at our side.

Thank you for all you do to love, share, promote, and protect our outdoors.
