From the National Office
‘Tis the season of giving!
Thank you to everyone who attended the 2014 AORE Annual Conference. It was wonderful to put names to faces and I
really enjoyed meeting new people and connecting with old friends, and I am sure many of you feel the same. The
conference was record-breaking, and brought out the generous and giving spirit of outdoor recreation professionals,
which became evident at the “Fundraising – know your role and support the ask” presentation.
At the 2014 AORE National Conference in Portland, OR, the Financial Advisory Committee (FAC) took advantage of a
real-time crowd funding opportunity by presenting a Fundraising Call To Action amongst the attendees. At the
conclusion of a presentation titled “Fundraising – know your role and support the ask”, the members of the FAC
announced that it would match up to $1,500 any donations made by the attendees before the exiting the room.
Envelopes were passed throughout and within 15 minutes, over $600 was collected. Then, at two additional
presentations, the call to action was once again challenged and attendees generously responded by donating even
more. As donations continued to roll in, the $1,500 goal was increased to $2,500, and the FAC would honor the match.
Therefore, the new goal was set at $5,000. The National Office is proud to report, that the original goal of $1,500 raised
by attendees / $1,500 matched by FAC has been successfully met. Additionally, after reconciling pledges, the final tally
is this:
Attendee raised funds = $1,733. FAC match and personal donations = $2,942. Grand total = $4,675.
AORE is proud to celebrate that this impromptu call to action resulted in $4,675 spontaneously raised in support of the
AORE and that these funds will assist the association in advancing the profession of outdoor recreation and education.
This incredible and spontaneous fundraising effort eclipsed its first goal of $3,000, but is $325 short of its $5,000 goal.
Confident in the memberships ability to donate, the FAC has already donated the full portion of its $2,500 match. It’s
up to you now. It’s not too late! If you would like to personally contribute to this momentous event, please make a
donation before the end of the year.
AORE Board of Directors and Staff have given 100% in 2014, and we have a goal of raising $5,000 in 2014, we are asking
you to help further the profession of outdoor recreation and education with your financial gift.
Thank you,
