James Madison University—Adapted Sports Day is a free event designed to expose middle school and high school students
with disabilities to a college campus, using sport as a tool for empowerment. Youth with ANY disability (those who are
ambulatory, use a manual wheelchair, or use a power wheelchair) experience an introduction to soccer skills through interaction
with JMU students who serve as mentors. The participants also get the opportunity to try a challenger/ropes course during the
event as well. The goal of Adapted Sports Day is to empower youth with disabilities that new challenges—such as playing a sport
or even college attendance—are possible to overcome.
