Anzzia: You are a comedian.
Carmen: Yes, I am a full time stand up, traveling comedian.
Anzzia: That's amazing! How did you get into comedy?
Carmen: That's always the first question that people ask me. It's crazy. I've always loved watching comedy growing up. It was always my favorite form of entertainment was laughing. When I was like, eighteen or nineteen I got a job as a server at a comedy club. I would love watching the show but, it always disrupted me from, serving my tables would disrupt me from watching the show. I was from upstate New York and I moved down to Florida and I moved to Orlando. I looked up comedy clubs and I found a place called The Improv Comedy Club. I got a job there because I remember how much fun it was working in a comedy club. But, this time, instead of being a server I made sure to get a job at the box office. But, that was where, obviously a lot of business goes through the box office but, you could always like, give away tickets to shows and you kind of like, have the hook up. You're kind of like Mr. Cool. People who work in the back office have always had special cool hook up. "Oh man, I want tickets!", yeah you know it's a cool spot. Plus, they can watch the show. By the time their shift was done they could watch the show. I'm like, "Great! I'm going to
get a job at the box office." It also doubled as a social life for me. I kind of like got the job and ended up working at a comedy club first and then started to go to open mics and stuff like that. They offered a comedy class. The improv offered a stand up comedy class that I would sit on because I worked there. Yeah and it was really cool. So, that really helped a lot and going to open mics is how I got my start and got the ball rolling and try to make really funny acts. That way people would book you and they started to and I was really appreciative and that's kind of how that happened.
