Anzzia: Tell us a bit about yourself and your artwork. What’s your background?

Diana: I'm a 26-year-old artist currently living between the US and Serbia, I have a studio here in which I spend my days working. I was classically trained in Florence, Italy where I learned to work with

traditional techniques and materials. I am currently focusing on growing my body of work which is rooted in my academic training.

Anzzia: How long have you been honing your craft?

Diana: In 2014, when I applied to study at The Florence Academy of Art is when my serious training began. I studied classical painting and drawing for three years since I've graduated. I have continued to improve and study the work of old masters.

Anzzia: What does your work aim to say?

Diana: I don’t believe it should be seen as a necessity to make a statement, paintings are visual by nature. I, myself, am more interested in things like aesthetics, a mood, a sense of atmosphere.

Anzzia: Why do you do what you do?

Diana: I have a deep love for traditional painting and my admiration for artists of the past continues to grow every day. I like to think that I am following their path which has been forgotten in the past century and is only now beginning to flourish again.

Anzzia: What's integral to the work of an artist?

Diana: Passion for the work he or she makes and an honest belief that it can be inspiring to others

Anzzia: How has your practice changed over time?

Diana: I graduated from my academy one year ago. My work before the classical training was totally different than what I am doing now. Before, I was very focused on certain aesthetics and moods but did not have the ability to translate them into a traditional composition. The past few years have been focused on school work, and this year I am working on marrying the two.

Anzzia: What art do you most identify with?

Diana: I connect most with the academic painters of the 19th century, their work is the biggest influence of my own.

Anzzia: What work do you most enjoying doing?

Diana: Portraiture from life is the most enjoyable and rewarding work for me.

Anzzia: What themes do you pursue?

Diana: At the moment I'm very attracted to figures in interiors, a strong aesthetic and a strong mood are important to me. Lately, I have been very interested in incorporating decorative elements in my paintings.
