NEW RESEARCH CENTER EXPECTED TO DIVERSIFY HAWAIʻI ’ S ECONOMY

In 2020 , the UH Cancer Center began the final design process leading to the construction of the Early Phase Clinical Research Center in shell space contiguous with the Cancer Center building in Kaka ‘ ako . The project , which received funding from the state Legislature and the National Institutes of Health , will provide access to novel , cutting-edge clinical trials , and allow cancer patients to receive these treatments in Hawai ‘ i , avoiding the time and expense of traveling to the mainland . The new research center is being created in collaboration with clinical members of the Hawai ‘ i Cancer Consortium ( HCC ).
The construction documents , which include renderings and building specifications , have been sent to the National Institutes of Health for review . Upon approval , a qualified general contractor will be hired to take charge of and begin construction .
