standing up for employers: Federal Focus
Building on the success of the first Federal
Affairs Summit held the previous year as
part of the AWB Policy Summit, AWB held
a Federal Affairs Summit in August at the
Greater Tacoma Convention Center. Six
members of Congress from both parties
participated in the event, as well as leading
Canadian and Mexican diplomats and former
U.S. Sen. Slade Gorton.
The event gave employers an opportunity
to connect with members of Washington’s
congressional delegation — without leaving
Washington state — on topics including
international trade, infrastructure and
the Supreme Court.
In December, AWB once again led a fly-in to
the nation’s capital. Approximately two dozen
employers joined AWB staff in a series of
meetings with Washington’s congressional
delegation. The trip also included a meeting
with David MacNaughton, Canada’s
ambassador to the United States, at the
Canadian embassy.
