C O M M U N I T Y E N G A G E M E N T 2. CONNECTING WITH THE COMMUNITY | 13 The City is always looking for ways to engage residents and harness their creativity. Several brainstorming sessions led City staff to develop exciting campaigns in 2017 that involved the entire community. #PSLinLights: A last-minute engagement campaign in 2016 has turned into a new holiday tradition for the City of Port St. Lucie. In 2017, staff took it up a notch and added new elements to the PSLinLights campaign. This campaign encourages residents to share their festively decorated homes through social media and the City’s website. Homes were added to an interactive map so residents could easily locate displays. The City’s first ever #PSLinLights bus tour was extremely successful and more than 200 residents of all ages celebrated the holidays at this event. PSL Rocks the City FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS — This Port St. Lucie festival attracts thousands of people who participate to sample local fare, discover craft vendors, enjoy live music and performances, and end their evening with a parade of spectacular lights and the lighting of PSL’s holiday tree. Kick off your holiday season at the PSL Civic Center on December 1, 2018 at the Festival of Lights. The City and the PSL Rocks Facebook group formed a partnership in 2017 to collaborate on ideas, support the overall rock painting/hunting movement and focus on the “good” it does for the community. The campaign engaged schools in Port St. Lucie to paint the rocks and give them to the City to hide in City parks. Hundreds of rocks also were painted by those who attended the City’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival at the Civic Center, where PSL Rocks and the City set up painting stations. The painted rocks were branded with ‘PSL Rocks the City’ and hidden in City parks. Those who found several “lucky rocks” were winners of prizes donated by local businesses, which supported this very popular engagement campaign. The City received a substantial amount of positive support from the community and participation from residents was contagious. CITY OF PORT ST. LUCIE A N N U A L R E P O R T 2017
