THE INSURANCE PRACTITIONER APPRENTICESHIP: AN OVERVIEW

2016 saw the launch of the Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship, a game-changer for the insurance industry and the education sector.

The Insurance Institute developed the programme with input from representatives from across the industry – brokers, loss adjusters, insurance companies and professional bodies. As a result, the programme is designed to meet the needs of insurance businesses of all sizes.

By partnering with IT Sligo and incorporating third level business modules, we created Ireland’s first honours degree level apprenticeship programme, which delivers a BA (Hons) in Insurance Practice at the end of three years, as well as the Professional Certificate and Professional Diploma in Insurance qualifications.

In 2016, 67 apprentices began the ‘earn and learn’ programme in 36 organisations nationwide and this number is expected to expand rapidly in 2017 and beyond.
