Looking Ahead
Dr. Rocco Gerace looks ahead to the coming year.
I
n a letter written to Ontarians last fall, Premier Kathleen Wynne
announced an initiative that would make government data open
by default.
Premier Wynne described the Open Government initiative as a
move to create a more transparent, accessible government. Government data belongs to the people, she stated, and therefore
should be unlocked. Once the data is put online, the public will
be asked to provide opinions on issues such as traffic gridlock and
hospital wait times.
Demonstrating accountability has become paramount to the credibility
of all organizations with
a public interest mandate.
