Periodontics—‘ensuring healthy gums and reducing tooth loss’ LMC Dental anxiously awaits graduation of the first group of Periodontics residents who will complete their studies in this intensive 36-month hospital-based training program, launched in July 2012. Periodontics residents learn advanced nonsurgical and surgical skills in treating periodontal disease, including expertise in all forms and severities of implantology, treatment plans and therapies. Residents train with specialists in all disciplines of dentistry, including but not limited to: orthodontics, endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, pediatric dentistry, dental anesthesia and treatment of patients with special care needs. Clinical rotations include: anesthesia and orofacial pain. Year three stresses board preparation and teaching first- and second-year periodontal to AEGD and GPR residents. All residents render consultations and surgeries at sites throughout Brooklyn, New York, including Brooklyn Heights Hospital, Sunset Park Family Health Center, Brooklyn Chinese Family Health Center, Caribbean-American Health Center, Park Ridge Family Health Center, and Park Slope Family Health Center.
