Pediatrics Chief Resident Selections for Training Year
LMC-PEDS announced the selection of the Chief
Residents at each of its LMC-Extramural sites for the
July 2014-June 2015 training year. In a long succession
of Chief Residents, the newly appointed Chiefs will
set a high standard for those who follow. Each Chief
was selected on the basis of performance, leadership
potential, and written personal statement.
Chief Residents are:

• Arizona: Lauren Clegg-Hobeich, Tyler Owens,
and Christopher Nakamura
• California: Rayna Karoll and Staci Robinson
• Hawaii: Sara Van Arsdall
• Maryland: Kelly Hendricks

• Missouri: Christopher Drake

AAPD Public Policy Advocacy Conference in
Washington, DC
LMC Dental faculty and residents were honored to
participate in the American Academy of Pediatric
Dentistry (AAPD) March, 2014 Public Policy Advocacy
Conference in Washington, D.C. The AAPD only
supported 50 AAPD members for attendance at the
event, formerly known as ‘Lobby Days’. As advocates
of children’s oral health, the AAPD works closely with
legislators, professional associations and health care
professionals to develop policies and guidelines,
implement research opportunities in pediatric oral
health and educate pediatric dentists, health care
providers and the public regarding pediatric oral health.

Accomplishments:
2013 LMC-PEDS/Massachusetts
Graduate, Dr. Hussam Gharraph,
was the recipient of the 2013
Richard. C. Pugh Award in March,
2014. The award is conferred upon
graduates who scored in the Top 3%
of the American Board of Pediatric
Dentistry written qualifying exam.
2012 LMC-PEDS/Massachusetts
graduate, Dr. Sujatha Sivaraman
had her research paper, “A National
Survey of Pediatric Dentists on
Antibiotic Use in Children” published
in the November/December 2013
issue of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Serena Kassam, an LMC Dental Pediatric Dentistry
part-time faculty member (Brooklyn and Providence)
began as Director of Pre-doctoral Pediatric Dentistry for
NYU College of Dentistry, effective May 2014. Dr. Kassam
(DMD, Tufts University) is also a 2007 graduate of LMC
Dental’s postdoctoral residency program in Pediatric
Dentistry.
Residents inducted into the Honos Civicus Society
In May, 2014, Dr. Yusuf Bhatti (PGY 1 Pediatric Dental
Resident/Maryland, 2014), Dr. Judyth Lee (PGY 1
Pediatric Dental Resident/Maryland, 2014), and Dr.
Leslie Slowikowski (PGY 1 Pediatric Dental Resident/
Rhode Island, 2014); all graduates of Tufts University
School of Dental Medicine were inducted into the
Honos Civicus Society. The Honos Civicus Society,
celebrates and publicly recognizes graduating
students who have demonstrated an exceptional
commitment to community service and civic
engagement during their studies.
