FOUNDATIONAL LITERACY
AND SKILLS
GED TEST PREPARATION
The foundational literacy and skills courses
provide the building blocks for a solid base
aimed ultimately at career development
and advancement. Classes include practical
context-based learning preparing students
for everyday situations in the U.S. Overall
the curriculum encompasses: employability,
health and wellness, consumer education,
parenting and family skills, math and
technology concepts, the rights and
responsibilities of citizens, multicultural
awareness and appreciation, and
participation in the democratic process.
This program supports students working to obtain
an official high school credential. Students enter
the GED program with a wide range of educational
backgrounds. Through the Plazas Comunitarias
Carlos Rosario Program, students are able to earn
elementary and middle school certificates thanks to
a partnership with the Mexican Consulate.
CITIZENSHIP TEST PREPARATION
This class ensures eligible students will be able to
pass the official naturalization test with confidence,
covering topics such as U.S. history, government, the
Constitution, the democratic process, and the rights
and responsibilities of citizens.
