Annual Report 2012AnnualReport-final

T OWN OF J UPITER 2012 ANNUAL REPORT AND 2013 PREVIEW Emerging Stronger, Sounder For Jupiter, 2012 was a busy year of sharp contrasts between celebration and sorrow. The community lost two very important members. In July, Councilor Bob Friedman lost his battle with cancer, and as a community we mourned the loss of a local leader whose love of Jupiter was always evidenced by his sound, even judgement and constant support for the people, businesses, and organizations in this town he called home. As a Town Council, we mourned the loss of a friend and true statesman of local government, who we looked to for guidance, wisdom, and thoughtful deliberation of the issues facing our community. Sadly, in September, Jupiter lost another dedicated public servant when Officer Bruce St. Laurent was killed in an accident while participating in the Presidential Motorcade. The officer that many in the community remember as “Santa”, who tirelessly gave his time to children in our community, was remembered in a ceremony with full honors attended by thousands. Law enforcement agencies, civic groups, local governments and local citizens all came together to remember Officer St. Laurent for his dedication as an outstanding officer and community member. Finding strength in the legacy that these two community leaders have left us, we are emerging from our sorrow to realize what they would have wanted most for Jupiter: to continue toward our vision of providing a high quality of life, a safe community, and a sound local economy, all the while maintaining our character and small-town feel. VISION: Jupiter is a distinctive coastal community committed to preserving its unique character feel. and history and vibrant, small-town We have made progress, but we still have work to do in all of these areas to achieve our goals. As we remember Councilor Friedman and Officer St. Laurent, we know that they would ask us to continue the journey with integrity and leadership. Continuing their legacy gives us additional strength and sense of purpose, and our greatest tribute to them can always be how we continue to remain “Uniquely Jupiter.” Jupiter at a Glance: 2012 Members of the Jupiter Town Council: • Mayor Karen Golonka • Councilor Wendy Harrison • Councilor Thomas McCarthy Departments/Services & Contacts: Building Department/Building Business Registration Business Development (JBiz) “Let Us Know” (resident comments) Code Compliance Community Center Community Redevelopment Agcy; Riverwalk Community Relations/PIO Engineering Finance and Property Tax Information Human Resources & Staffing Hurricane & Storm Information Line Information Systems Neighborhood Services Open Space Program (Natural Areas) Recreation Division Planning & Zoning Police Department Parks & Public Works Town Clerk Town Council and Mayor Town Manager’s Office Water and Stormwater Utilities 741-2669 [email protected] 741-2319 [email protected] 741-BIZJ (2495) [email protected] 741-2214 www.jupiter.fl.us 741-2381 [email protected] 741-2400 741-2261 [email protected] 741-2575 [email protected] 741-2225 [email protected] 741-2218 [email protected] 741-5134 741-2520/24-Hour Job Line 743-7013 www.jupiter.fl.us/storm 741-2351 [email protected] 741-2278 [email protected] 741-2565 [email protected] 741-2400 [email protected] 741-2323 [email protected] 746-6201 www.jupiter.fl.us/jpd 741-2766 [email protected] 741-2352 [email protected] 741-2214 [email protected] 741-2214 [email protected] 741-2270 [email protected] • Vice Mayor Todd Wodraska • Councilor Jim Kuretski Population 55,542 Households 23,920 Median Household Income $65,707 23.1 square miles, or Land Area approx. 14,782 acres Land Area Devoted to Parks, Natural Areas and Greenspace Keep in Touch: 2,646 acres Sources: BEBR Florida Estimates of Populations; U.S. Census Bureau and Town of Jupiter.
