Each country had three boats, with two anglers per boat: amounting to 39 teams in total. All teams had two practise days (where anglers from other countries could get to know the Vaal River a bit more), and three competition days. At the end of each competition day, every 2-man team could weigh-in a bag of 5 fish in total. It was a tight competition, with Italy, USA and South Africa all fighting for the top spot. They also experienced trying weather conditions that made finding those big bass that much more difficult. This is the first time that USA has ever sent a team to compete in a bass World Championship. Their presence created a lot of excitement, as USA are often considered the “gurus” of world bass angling, and this therefore made the 2017 World Championship a cut above the rest. The US Team featured no less than 4 Lowrance Pro-anglers. We caught up with one of them; Scott Canterbury CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO We are very happy to report that, in the end, Team South Africa did our nation proud and took top honours as WORLD BASS FISHING CHAMPIONS. Well done to Team South Africa! Lowrance SA had a strong presence and we provided technical back-up to the many teams that used Lowrance-equipped boats. John Minnie and Marc Kruger were at the Vaal River for the entire week, chatting to the various anglers, skippers and the public. We also had a display stand where we could demo all the latest products Lowrance has to offer. If you are considering buying new electronics for your boat and you’re not sure which brand to choose, the boats at this world championship would have given you the answer. Out of 39 teams, more than 30 were equipped with Lowrance. The best-of-the-best bass anglers throughout the world choose Lowrance! Marc Bywater provided for live coverage of the event on his Just Fishing Facebook page. SA bass competitions 2017 | 25
