At the time of the competition the dam was 100 % full and with unpredictable weather , in the week leading up to the event , most of the anglers did not know where the fish would be located . Warm weather with blue bird skies met the anglers in the morning with partly cloud cover later the afternoon .
Fishing was extremely tough with 13 teams blanking and only 16 teams managing to find 5 fish for weigh-in . Compared to last year ’ s March event at Vygeboom where only 2 teams blanked .

Most of the anglers quickly figured out that the fish were holding shallow despite the near 27Deg c water temperature , but it was Team Venom Lures who made the most of the shallow fish . First placed team Venom Lures of Frank and Ben Gottschalk focused on shallow banks in the main lake with flooded grass , fishing in less than 4ft water in the morning before eventually pulling back to 6-9ft water later in the day . All their fish were tricked into biting with weightless flukes .
The biggest bass for the day was weighed in by Graham Whitting of Team Bass Savage , who ended up placing 2nd for the day . A fish of 1.535kg , just slightly larger than the second biggest bass of 1.420kg weighed in by Team Bassinator . Graham Whitting and Jaundre ’ Koch used their trusted hds 9 and 12 gen 3 lowrance fish finders to find the fish . They got results on spinner baits and flukes with the biggest fish falling for a mojo rigged white fluke .
