great day starts with great bait. Mackerel,
Maas-bunker, Shad and Red-eyes are
normally on the menu and whether your
intentions are bottom fishing or game fishing,
a live platter of the aforementioned is a
necessity. What Durban may lack in current
breaking structure it makes up for in an array
of well known marks that hold not only bait
but almost every blue-water specie
imaginable as and when the time is right. The
barges and containers are great training
grounds to test your routines on and there is
no telling which drift or bait will yield the fish
of a lifetime. I would definitely not consider
Durban the easiest fishery to overcome but
the age old saying says persistence pays and
this is only too true in Durban. From Snoek
and Garrick in the back-line to Tuna and
Dorado in the “bush” and Billfish and Wahoo
on the outside, Durban can and will satisfy
your angling fantasies.

To these anglers, Durban is a haven, an
opportunity to decide on a species, target it,
and conquer it. To the rest of us Durban is an
off-shore destination that on 1 day can
relinquish its fruits barely a stone’s throw
from the launch, and the day after require you
to travel extensively to harvest your target.
Being centrally located to the options of
running north or south, within range of the
base are destinations such as Umdloti, Ballito
and Zinkwazi to the north and Toti to the
south. Durban scores its highest points on the
basis of the amazing bait population that can
generally be found within close proximity and
