REPORT KZN Fishing Report long lining method, so be sure to fill your reels accordingly, 6-12lb is usually adequate. As the water starts to heat up we will start to notice a big difference in the feeding patterns and the number of fish being landed, so keep a few days of your summer open for a trip up to Kosi Bay. By: The Kingfisher 14 September 2016 With the weather and sea conditions leaning more towards angler’s preference over the last week, there was no shortage of fish being caught throughout the coast. Rock n Surf North Kosi Bay has had a bit of a quiet spell with the inedibles off the surf region over the last week with the exception of a few flatfish, allowing anglers to spend their time concentrating on edible species such as Stumpies and Wave Garrick. These fish were targeted on smallChokka baits on light tackle. Most anglers fishing in the lakes managed a few decent Kingies on fly and dropshot as well. With the Grunter slowly but surely coming on the bite now, anglers will start to flock to these popular waters and try their luck at long lining. Just a reminder that there are a high number of Toby's which frequent the lakes too, which often leads to the shiny clear or white lines being bitten off during a fight with the Grunter caught on long lines. The average reel needs to accommodate at least 400m of nylon for the Angling Times Weekly SA 22 Reports suggest massive numbers of Shad in the Cape Vidal area, which have been making good size and also proving to be working very well as bait for larger flat fish such as Diamond Rays, Honeycombs and also a few Black Fin Sharks. Live Shad slid out has also produced a number of Garrick. There have been good catches of Kob and Garrick around Richards Bay, as well as a number of flatfish of all sorts. The Bay has handed over many a Grunter to anglers fishing from boats and from the side, most of which have been much larger than previous weeks. Going with what we have seen thus far, our summer should be hugely productive. In the Zinkwazi/Blythedale area, Grey Sharks have been targeted in the evenings by anglers using spinning outfits and medium sized throw baits. Quite a few fish have been caught, mostly coming out in twos and threes. Sand Sharks and better size Shad have been caught in the mornings along this stretch. Anglers in the Ballito area have been catching smaller Shad and the odd decent size fish, and with plenty of peckers around, most baits do not last too long.
