LOWVELD 2016 2016 2016 Lowveld Bass Trail Round 7: Driekoppies Dam, August 13th. T The team representing Angling & Outdoor World, a premier fishing tackle retailer in Nelspruit, enjoyed a record breaking day on the water. Charl Carey and Michael Cronje weighed in 10.35kg to win the tournament, the new LBT 5-fish-limit record. This mammoth bag included the second biggest bass ever weighed in the Lowveld Bass Trail. Carey’s 4.39kg bass was just 30 grams lighter than the existing record, caught by Frank Gottschalk at Driekoppies in August 2015. he penultimate tournament of the LBT season was held at Driekoppies Dam on Saturday, August 13th. The Lowveld Bass Trail anglers didn’t disappoint with four limits over 7kg and two bass over 4kg coming to the scale. At the time of the tournament the water level of the dam was hovering around the 32.4% mark, but this didn’t deter the thirty seven teams that entered from giving it their all on the dam that is known for its population of colossal lunker largemouth bass. “ Carey and Cronje caught all of their keepers on three baits: Zoom Super Flukes, Zoom Magnum Flukes and 4” Big Bite Baits Rojas Fighting Frogs. They focussed most of their efforts in around 8 feet of water dissecting trees with pinpoint casts, with most of their bites coming while the baits were on the drop. Team Angling & Outdoor World have now won at least one Lowveld Bass Trail tournament per season for the last three years running. Only three teams failed to bring any fish to the weigh-in, while eighteen teams weighed a full bag of five bass. In total, 131 bass were weighed in at an average of 0.778kg. This is a massive improvement from the July tournament also at Driekoppies where the average weight was 0.451kg. ” Angling Times Weekly SA 09 www.anglingtimes.co.za
