The Rockets’ Miguel Randall top-scored with 14 points, followed by teammates Luis Ladera with 4, Jaeryn Agustin with 2, and Brandon O’Malley with 1 point and put a stop to the blueshirted Wolves’ reign. The Wolves’ CJ Bayatao and Jaylen Beltran led the scoring with 8 points. Randall was voted Most Valuable Player. In the Under-14s, the Blazers derailed the Vipers, 57-45 The Vipers’ sentinels were led by the sweet-shooting Joshua Guatato on 20 points, Miguel on 13, and Koe Evangelista on 12. NSW Team regains Friendship Cup THE team of Fil-oz Social Golf Club representing the state of New South Wales finally won the 20th Fil-Aussie Interstate Friendship Golf cup held for four days in Manila last month. by RIC DE VERA THE Sydneysiders overtook the Queenslanders on the last day after overcoming an 18 points lead with final accumulated 776 points against 767 points of the Queenslanders, who ended up as the state team runner up. The state champion was awarded the monumental trophy plus P5000 cash courtesy of Travelaccess. ‘We are extremely happy that we got back the championship trophy after so many years” said Arnold Villamayor, the team captain of Fil-oz Social Golf club. “This was really a surprise to me as we were trailing behind during the first three days,” he said. Individual over-all winners were Troy Pashley (145 points) from Brisbane as champion followed by Sam Akbar (141 poitns) from Sydney as runner-up. They were awarded trophies and cash of P3000 and P1500, respectively, also from Travelaccess. Two daily ‘nearest the pins’ for each division were also awarded P300 each coming from the daily side betting by the participants. Printed fairway towels courtesy of the host club and the coor- dinator were given as souvenirs for the participants. Since it was the 10th year that the tournament was held in Manila, loyalty t-shirts were given to 20 golfers who has continuously participated in the event. A total of 92 golfers from Victoria (39); NSW (23), Queensland (13), Australian Capital Territory (11), Northern Territory (4) and WA (2), were transported daily by luxury coaches from the Executive Plaza Hotel to the golf courses. This event is now considered the biggest and most prestigious FilAussie Interstate golf tournament in the Philippines. The awards presentation and dinner was held at Manila Southwoods Golf & Country Club. During the program this writer, as coordinator, acknowledged the hard work of the host club headed by Dino Francisco and committee members. Oscar Parian, President of 40Love of Darwin, who will host next year’s series thanked everyone for their participation. The President of Pinoy golfers of Perth, Nestor Jongko was master of ceremonies. The 21st Fil-Aussie Interstate Friendship golf cup will be held in Manila in March next year hosted by 40Love of Darwin headed by Oscar Parian.
