Princess a Glamour Look queen
Forget martial arts, she loves to sing, zumba and model better
CHANTELLE is ‘Princess’ to the Torres
family of Minto but that was not intended
to place her on a pedestal, although it’s
where she sits now as the 2018 Miss
Glamour Look of Australia.
Her dad George Torres, a black belt
martial arts instructor, said that ‘Princess’
only became Chantelle’s nickname
when she couldn’t handle the rigours
of ‘sikaran’, a Fiiipino martial arts code
practised and taught by him.
Chantelle took up martial arts after she
had been bullied at school, but cut short
that activity pretty quickly.
“She complained about pain in her arms
when punching the heavy bag,” George
said.
“The overall robust physical activity of
the sport was too much for Chantelle.
“Her mother Coral thought she was
being a bit precious, and started to call
our daughter – our second of three – her
little ‘Princess’.
“And the name stuck.”
Not that Chantelle was put off by sports.
She took to track and field like a fish on
water, joined Ingleburn Athletic Club age
six years of age; moved to Campbelltown
Athletic Club at 16 for senior athletics and
competed in the 100m, 200m, 400m and
1,500m events.
At the 3000m race-walk Chantelle won
the championship as a 16, 17, and 18
year-old.
She also won the Campbelltown City
Challenge women’s 6km race-walk in
2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Chantelle was into team sports, too,
playing netball as a teenager with
Ingleburn Netball Club and Campbelltown
East Netball Club.
But that was just Chantelle’s contribution
to sports. She was more into a long list

of hobbies of singing, dancing, zumba,
treks in the forest, modelling, reading and
working out with weights at the gym.
She performed as a singer at clubs and
concerts, winning a singing competition at
Cabravale Diggers Club three times.
In 2016, Chantelle was named Miss
Philippines Australa Charity Princess at
Fiesta Kultura.

giving up on
robust sport
Chantelle will soon visit handicapped
children of Tahanang Walang Hagdan
(House With No Steps) in the Philippines
after competing at the inaugural 2019
Miss Glamour Look International in
Manila in February 2019.
She says her ambition to be become a
professional actress and vocalist.
Chantelle’s favourite colour is purple.
Chantelle leads the pack at a local track
event as a school teenager.
