Philippine arts
project returns
BAYANIHAN Philippine
Art Project, a series of free
open-to-the-public art and
culture exhibits, workshops,
performances, traditional
games, parades and other
activities about the Philippines is
being held at various art centres
in NSW including the Arts Gallery
of NSW at staggered dates.
Launched in mid-2016 at the Arts Gallery
of NSW, the series returned in June this year.
Balik-Tanaw (Looking Back), is the theme
of the Cumberland Council series of this
project.
It will run from June 24 o September
3 at the Peacock Gallery and Auburn Arts
Studio as funded by Cumberland Council
and Create NSW Arts Screen & Culture, with
support from the Alliance of Philippine
Community Organisations (APCO) n

The group won over a big audience
following the popular talent show, allowing it
to advance to top 5.
4th Impact’s three-day tour starts in
Auckland on August 18, Melbourne on
August 19 and will showcase a big-bang
finale in Sydney’s west.
“4th Impact will perform their X-Factor
UK audition songs and some popular covers,”
said Silver Rain producer Elisa Marquez.
“Their audition video is currently the
second most-viewed video of X-Factor UK on
YouTube with over 85 million views.”
4th Impact, also known as Cercado
Sisters, comprises Almira, Irene, Mylene and
Celina from Santiago City, Isabella.
Their names evolved through the years.
The group was also called Gollayan
Sisters, MICA and 4th Power.
The group started its musical journey
in 2006, and successfully reaped a handful
of achievements under its belt including
Junior Vocal Group Grand Champion of
the World (2006), 16 gold medals, four
Outstanding Plaques and a Grand Star trophy
in Hollywood’s World Championships of
Performing Arts, and 2017 winner of Group
Wish Award.

featuring a quest for Mrs Charity
Queen Australia and Mrs
Visayas-Australia 2017 at 6pm
on Saturday, July 22 2017, at
Club Marconi in Bossley Park.
The competition is aimed at raising
funds to support the Association’s on-going
Outreach projects in the Philippines such as
the feeding program for young children in
poorer areas where malnutrition is prevalent
and whose lives were tragically affected
by calamities; a Seeds of Hope program for
poor farmers by providing them with high
quality yielding seeds to grow vegetables
and crops; a scholarship program for poor
and deserving students to afford higher
education, complete the course and be able
to help their own families.
The winning candidate will attend to
all charitable activities of the Association
overseas.

‘I am Filo’
Are you a young person aged
between 12-25 with Filipino
heritage? Would you like to
join a small group and explore
and discuss what it means to be
‘Filo’? This is a theatre-based
development program for
young people that will come
together as a performance in
August. The workshops are
a space to share stories and
learn to perform the stories in
different ways.
The group is led by experienced theatre
maker and performer, Valerie Berry. She will
mentor participants through a series of fun
workshops that are sure to result in a few
laughs and great experiences as well as a
short performance.
