Major road upgrade
opens four years early
I visited Marsden
Park to officially
open the final
stage of the $135
million upgrade of
Richmond Road
in Sydney’s north
west.
I joined Minister for Roads
Duncan Gay and local MPs Dominic
Perrottet, Kevin Conolly and Ray
Williams to open the final stage
of the upgrade, which has been
opened to traffic four years early and
within budget.
The upgrade covered a five
kilometre stretch of Richmond Road,
which has doubled capacity and
improved safety on the key arterial
road connecting the growing
suburb of Marsden Park with the M7.
The road used to be a single lane
in each direction so the upgrade
will be essential to Sydney’s
newest suburbs where more than
70,000 new homes will be built in
Schofields, Riverstone and Marsden
Park. It’s now a four-lane divided
road with enough room to cater
for up to six lanes if needed in the
future.

We wanted to deliver the
road as quickly as possible for the
local community, which is why it
was one of the first projects to be
fast-tracked under our Housing
Acceleration Fund.
We’re planning for the future,
undertaking these road upgrades
well before new residents and
businesses move in. Families
moving into this fast-growing
region deserve infrastructure that
makes their lives as easy possible
and this upgrade will improve
travel times, reduce congestion
and improve safety, which is why
I’m delighted we’ve been able
to deliver this project four years
ahead of schedule.
In other news, the location
for the Sydney School of
Entrepreneurship (SSE) has been
decided.
The unique partnership
between eleven NSW universities
and TAFE NSW was announced in
July with a $25 million investment
from the Government. The
initiative will help prepare our
brightest university and TAFE
students for business success.
The SSE will be based at the TAFE
campus at Ultimo and will be
headed up by the former boss of
the world renowned Stockholm
School, Nick Kaye.

and I hope we can replicate the
same model here in Sydney. Under
Nick’s leadership, students at
the Stockholm School went on
to found companies worth more
than a billion dollars so we’re very
excited he’ll be bringing his skills
and experience back to Australia.
The school will complement our
efforts to make NSW Australia’s
start-up state, and will hopefully
encourage more primary and high
school students to study maths
and science.
We’re investing in innovation
in NSW to provide students with
clear pathways to receive the
education they need to secure
jobs into the future. We’re
embedding the Sydney School
of Entrepreneurship within TAFE
to allow our brightest students
and budding entrepreneurs to
access education, information
and networks to develop their
skills and become highly skilled
business leaders.
