want to be with how things have played
out and we have had to work hard to claw
our way back to be up and running.
“With the track needing grinding and the
other work required we had to rebuild
again from where we started and then that
old bugbear of drag racing, the weather,
also threw some curveballs our way! At the
crux of it, what we are doing now is taking
it slowly – we want to do things right.
“So for now, we are running a few private
tests while getting ready for some great
events we have just announced starting
with a bracket meet on the 13th of October
which we are holding in conjunction with
The Melbourne Drag Racing Club and The
Victorian Drag Racing Club.
“As far as big national-level events, we
certainly want to hold them in the future,
but we have a way to go before we are
ready for that kind of step. We have dirt
pits which can be an issue as no one
wants to turn up to a meeting only to be
‘dusted out’. And while we now have a
shower block which is great, there are a
lot of facilities that need to be completed
before we are ready to hold events of that
magnitude.
“So for now we are working on that side
of things and once we are ready, we will
see what we can do. At the end of the day
we want to make sure that we do it right,
has been a great
“ It journey
so far, no journey
worth having ever went
smoothly after all! As a
completely volunteer-run
facility, I am immensely proud
of what we have been able to
achieve so far and of what is
coming up!
”
we do it properly, we do it confidently, and
make sure it is a success.”
While slow and steady is the mantra, there
is no doubt that there are exciting things
on the horizon for Swan Hill Dragway.
“We were extremely proud as a committee
to announce the March 2 date recently for
the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars,”
Gary explained.
“Before we get to March however there
is plenty of cool stuff on the docket. From
October’s bracket event to the Street
Machine Drag Challenge in November
which will be our biggest event to date by
far, there is a lot coming up!”
