LEGENDARY RAG RACER INDUCTED TO HALL OF FAME ANDRA would like to send its congratulations to Graeme Cowin, who was recently inducted into the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame, presented by Speedcafe. Cowin’s history is well known within Australia’s drag racing industry. He was the fi rst driver outside of North America to break the fi ve second barrier, with that milestone coming at Calder Park Raceway in 1993; was crowned as Australia’s Top Fuel champion in 1995; and also raced overseas in NHRA-sanctioned events in the United States. The Cowin Family Racing outfi t of the truck driver and his wife Wendy also invested their life savings into the famous Psycho nitro-fuelled drag car, established the leading Rocket Industries business, and is a key driver of the popular Aerofl ow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car Series in which his team also races. After the award was announced, Cowin told the award’s presenting partner, Speedcafe.com, that he was very pleased to be recognised. ANDRA General Manager Brett Stevens attended the event to present the award, which was accepted by Aerofl ow brand manager and Cowin’s friend and fellow racer, Glen Collett; as Cowin himself was in Perth for an Aerofl ow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car event. “I am surprised, deeply honoured, humbled and proud,” he told Speedcafe.com. “None of this would have been possible without my wife Wendy. Our partnership started in 1967 with a passion for racing and is still as strong as ever today. “It’s hard to stipulate one highlight, but one that stands out was qualifying for the US Nationals, at Indianapolis in 1985. “It was the fi rst race I ever attended in America. I got to race on of my all-time heroes in the fi rst round, John Force. “Even though we lost by a foot, we felt like we still won by qualifying at the biggest race in the world.” For more on Cowin’s award, please click here or here.
