Come explore the study of natural organisms
through the art of creativity! The intricacy of the
beehive and the hardworking bees that create its
architectural structure inspire our creation of natural forms from melted wax and honey. But wait!
Birds and alpine animals also join in on the fun
as we draw and paint together to make a large
outdoor mural. The sky’s the limit for our imaginations as we reference Paul Gauguin and other
famous artists inspired by the natural world.
Shawna Moore is a full-time studio artist living
in Montana. She shows her work nationally and
locally in Vail and Telluride. She is the mother of
a 14-year-old artistic daughter and has taught
encaustic painting to children from K-12.
Nicole Nagel Gogolak holds an M.F.A. in
fiber arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She
teaches classes at the Wyly Arts Center and has
worked with students at Anderson Ranch for
over 20 years. Her work is shown nationally.
Ages: 9 to 12 / 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Tuition: $425 / Studio Fee: $20

Discover the in-depth world of printmaking as
together we create our own linocuts and block
prints. We explore the elements and principles
of art and design while using our imaginations to
reveal expressive themes for our art. We gather
inspiration from everything around us, including
nature, music, travel and more. Join the fun to
create large-scale carvings to print. Also create
an intricate set of stamps. Our daily experience
of making art is forever changed through this
brand new set of printmaking skills!
Ami Maes has taught classes at Anderson
Ranch, Aspen Art Museum, Aspen Center
for Environmental Studies and Wyly Community Art Center. She is the recipient of the
Mary Ellen Nix Art Educator of the Year Award
through the Aspen Art Museum, founder and
creative director of HANDMAKERY: a children’s
art studio in Carbondale, Colo., and a middle
school art teacher.

Let’s go on a bead safari to Africa! We visit the
Zulu and Ndebele peoples of South Africa and the
Samburu of Kenya to learn some of their unusual
beading techniques. We use these techniques
to make colorful earrings, bracelets, pins and
rings using glass seed beads, wire, needle and
thread. We have lots of colorful beads to work
with to make our own fun and unique wearable
projects. Pictures and examples of authentic
African beadwork nurture our inspiration!
Let’s decorate the garden! Join us for a unique
workshop where we use clay to create adornments for our outdoor oasis. Wind chimes,
beautiful coil flower pots, finely decorated bird
houses and even a garden gnome or two pop
up in our week together. We learn handbuidling and design techniques to make a variety
of imaginative pieces to adorn our gardens for
years to come!
Wendy Ellsworth has been beading since
1970. She helped organize an artist-in-schools
program in Colorado and teaches classes to
all ages nationally and internationally. She has
made six trips to Kenya to work with Maasai
and Samburu beading groups. Her book Beading - The Creative Spirit was published by SkyLight Paths in 2009.

All aspiring filmmakers are invited to participate in this one-of-a-kind workshop combining
screenwriting techniques and hands-on filmmaking! With the collaborative instruction of
a professional writer from the Aspen Writers
Foundation and local videographer, Joel Lee,
we create in-depth stories to transfer onto the
big screen. Each day is spent writing in the
mornings and filming in the afternoons. We
take time to create detailed storyboards, intricate plots and unique characters. We explore
a variety of camera techniques such as transitions, continuity and composition. Students are
encouraged to role play, direct and edit their
movies for a final viewing at the end of the
week. Digital vide
