SKILL LEVEL: Open to all
CONCEPT: This workshop focuses on 3-D design
and how the use of objects—both new and
repurposed—defines form and conveys meaning. We are introduced to contemporary and
modern artists whose sculptural works exemplify the language of 3-D form. Through presentations and demonstrations we’re exposed
to a variety of materials and techniques that
highlight the use of the found object in sculpture. We create sculptures of personal meaning
while investigating design, form and structure.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Found objects such as
old tools, furniture and toys are used to create
sculptures. Construction, binding, wrapping
and other ways of adhering and incorporating
objects, both physically and visually, are demonstrated and discussed.
ACTIVITIES: We explore the basic principles of
3-D design incorporating the use of the found
objects through demonstrations, lectures and
group discussions. We take trips to local thrift
shops and work with a variety of materials and
techniques.
