TILT Export: Imposter Exhibition Craig Drennen, Painter 13d Anderson Ranch workshop participant June 23 - 27 Behold: a seminar on beauty June 30 - July 4 June 30 - July 4 TILT Export: Craig Drennen Cesar Garcia SKILL LEVEL: III - IV SKILL LEVEL: I SKILL LEVEL: IV, portfolio review required CONCEPT:  This idea-driven seminar breaks down the concept of beauty and builds it back up—challenging our assumptions and expanding our collective understanding of what beauty is. Through a series of readings and workshop exercises, we create an expansive dialog reviewing contemporary and historical examples of artistic expression. We address many topics including the sublime, the abject and kitsch. This class is intended to expose us to new artistic work and ideas, add fuel to the fire of our studio practice, and supply us with a rigorous intellectual experience. CONCEPT: This course addresses color through representational drawing in a variety of dry media. Students work from still life and a live model to gain an understanding of color, form and composition. Emphasis is on developing drawing skills and gaining a deeper understanding of a variety of color media. Perfect for those new to color or those who are interested in learning techniques for mixing mediums. CONCEPT:  This seminar combines daily group discussions about course readings and individual studio visits with the instructor to explore theoretical debates in contemporary art. Using Rosalind Krauss’s seminal essay, “Sculpture in the Expanded Field,” as a point of departure, we focus on current developments regarding medium-specificity and the relationship between visual art and other methodologies of creative production. We examine a survey of recent critical texts that are defining our understanding of artistic practices and the changing role of artists in society. Color Drawing in Dry Media MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Work time to pursue non-media specific individual projects in the painting studio. Participants should bring any tools, media or supplies needed to produce their own work. (We will not have access to other studios). ACTIVITIES:  Readings and discussion, work time, individual and group critiques. FACULTY: TILT Export: is an independent art initiative with no fixed location, working in partnership with a variety of venues to produce its exhibitions. Founded by Jenene Nagy and Joshua West Smith, former curators of Tilt Gallery and Project Space, TILT Export: serves as a catalyst for opportunity, awareness and the challenging of ideas through art making.   www.tiltpdx.com Tuition: $920 OR Tuition + Studio Support Donation: $1120 Studio Fee: $75  Code: D0407  Enrollment Limit 1
