SKILL LEVEL: II - IV
SKILL LEVEL: Open to all
CONCEPT: We make simple symmetrical
wooden bowl shapes and transform them into
asymmetric, segmented, carved, painted and
stitched-together sculptures. Using the lathe,
hand tools, glue, tape, band saw, drawings and
imagery, brass wire and waxed linen thread we
construct sculptural bowl forms.
CONCEPT: This class is designed to provide
students with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of woodturning in a fun, open and
sharing atmosphere. Whether just beginning
or ready to improve current skills, this workshop guides participants through tool selection, sharpening, safety, techniques and realizing the possibilities of turning. We begin with
spindle turning and progress into faceplate
turning to make small bowls or platters. We
explore aspects of design and surface embellishment using milk paint and texture. Each student emerges with a series of finished objects
and a solid understanding of woodturning and
its potential as an art form.
