Alan Stirt, Erosion Series #3 Michael de Forest, Cat Skull Bowl Kimberly Winkle, Monty’s Pumpkin Bowl June 16 - 20 June 23 - 27 June 30 - July 4 Michael de Forest Kimberly Winkle SKILL LEVEL: II - IV SKILL LEVEL: Open to all CONCEPT:  We make simple symmetrical wooden bowl shapes and transform them into asymmetric, segmented, carved, painted and stitched-together sculptures. Using the lathe, hand tools, glue, tape, band saw, drawings and imagery, brass wire and waxed linen thread we construct sculptural bowl forms. CONCEPT:  This class is designed to provide students with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of woodturning in a fun, open and sharing atmosphere. Whether just beginning or ready to improve current skills, this workshop guides participants through tool selection, sharpening, safety, techniques and realizing the possibilities of turning. We begin with spindle turning and progress into faceplate turning to make small bowls or platters. We explore aspects of design and surface embellishment using milk paint and texture. Each student emerges with a series of finished objects and a solid understanding of woodturning and its potential as an art form.
