CNC ROUTER & DIGITAL FABRICATION The Ranch’s Techno-Isel 48x48 CNC (computer numerically controlled) Router and Makerbot Replicator II 3-D Printer are used by several Ranch program areas for innovative and exciting workshops. Known for precision and accuracy in mass-produced designs, the CNC Router is a powerful tool for self-expression in the hands of creative designers. This summer, the Ranch is pleased to offer six classes specifically based around the use of these amazing pieces of equipment. The router and 3-D printer are located in the Maloof Wood Barn, and utilize Rhino, MasterCam, Aspire and Makerware software. Jason Schneider, Untitled June 2 - 6 Creating Images with the CNC Router Jason Schneider SKILL LEVEL: Open to all CONCEPT: This workshop is for anyone interested in learning how to create images in flat materials with a CNC (computer numerically controlled) router. We take drawings, photographs, scans and found images and import them into Photoshop, where we modify the images and prepare them for our CAM software. In the CAM software we assign tool paths for the CNC router to follow. We walk away with our images drawn, cut and routed into a variety of materials. MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Solid wood, plywood, paper, vinyl and cardboard. Students provide their own computers (laptops preferred) with Photoshop, Photoshop Elements or Illustrator installed. Some computer skills are necessary. We use Vetric’s Aspire CAD/CAM software with router bits, knife cutters and pen and pencil attachments on the router. ACTIVITIES: Starting with an overview of imagegenerating, basic wood-milling operations and parts preparation, we develop and practice the skills to use the CNC router creatively. Discussions, slide lectures, demonstrations and handson instruction occur at every stage. FACULTY:  Jason Schneider received his M.F.A. in furniture design from San Diego State University. He has lectured at many colleges and woodworking clubs throughout the country. His work has been featured in woodworking books and magazines and exhibited nationally. Jason is the Studio Coordinator of the Furniture Design and Woodworking Program at Anderson Ranch.   www.jasonschneiderfurniture.com Tuition: $675 OR Tuition + Studio Support Donation: $875 Studio Fee: $95  Code: W0101  Enrollment Limit 10 30  AN DERSONRA NCH.O RG   970/923-3181  INF O@ANDE R S O N R A N C H .
