SKILL LEVEL: I - II
SKILL LEVEL: III - IV, basic Macintosh skills and
advanced painting or drawing skills required.
CONCEPT: Learn to love digital workflow using
Adobe Lightroom. Developed by photographers for photographers, Lightroom’s workflow seamlessly integrates photo file management, processing and presentation in a single
software environment. We discuss every step
of the digital photographer’s workflow, from
raw capture to creative processing to final output as digital prints.
CONCEPT: Artists are drawn to using digital imagery and technology as a way to advance their
paintings and collages. This course teaches painters how to make personal and intimate images
by combining digital and handmade techniques.
Using these techniques, including the Juarez
method—which applies layers of transparency
using rice paper and images—we create a visual
and contextual conversation in our work.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Digital SLR, digital
photography, Adobe Lightroom and digital
printing.
influence me throughout
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Drawing, painting, collage and natural objects are combined with
digitally-found images, scanned images and
things created on the computer. We learn the
best methods for scanning 2- and 3-D objects
and artwork and investigate collage practices
with and without the use of a computer.
ACTIVITIES: We discuss digital image capture
and file management, demonstrating image
processing, digital printing and methods for
digital sharing and output. Friendly class conversations focus on making the most of the
pictures we take. Studio demonstrations and
lectures are complemented by field trips to
some of the Rocky Mountains’ most beautiful
areas. After shooting, students learn how to
process images and create the desired print.
ACTIVITIES: Critique and discussion about work
in progress, demonstrations of digital imaging
and collage techniques, and plenty of time to
practice these techniques under the guidance
of the instructors and studio assistant.

Coordinator for the Photography and New
