CONCEPT: This workshop explores the construction of clay figurative forms that allow and
accommodate extensive surface painting with
underglazes. At different points in the construction, painting and multiple firings of the
sculptures, we document our work with digital
cameras. The ability to observe one’s creative
process through digital imagery places emphasis on learning how to survey our work and
examine our working practices.
CONCEPT: This hands-on workshop inspires
experiments with new forms and methods of
construction. Geared toward creative expansion, we use handbuilding techniques, such as
coil and pinch methods, and soft slab construction to generate a variety of vessel forms. We
construct vases, baskets, boxes, false bottom
forms, tumblers and plates. Development of
the surface through texture and slip decoration
is a key part of this workshop. Collaboration
and fun are the primary goals.
