For thirty years, Anderson Ranch has
operated Anderson Ranch Editions, a
contemporary print publishing concern,
in the Patton Print Shop. This invitation-only
print shop has produced editions and multiples
by many leading artists of our time. Artists are
offered the opportunity to explore the range
of print media including woodblock, intaglio,
lithographic, screen and digital processes.
Recent participating artists include Karen
Kunc, Enrique Martínez Celaya, Harmony
Hammond, John Walker, Stephen Westfall
and Brad Miller plus many others ranging
from established to mid-career to emerging
artists. Visit AndersonRanchEditions.org.
Concept: Explore encaustic in a wide variety
of two- and three-dimensional applications.
Using encaustic medium, encaustic paint, oil
paint and found and fabricated objects, students move from two-dimensional painting to
relief to sculpture and back to two dimensions
again. Bring objects of interest, take chances,
explore and discover new avenues for your
work through this seductive and translucent
medium. All artists – painters, photographers,
sculptors, ceramicists and wood artists – will
enjoy this open format class.
Media & Techniques: Techniques include
encaustic painting, collage, surface and casting
(using plaster, clay and laytex molds).
Activities: We hold experimental and traditional demonstrations of two- and threedimensional encaustic painting and sculpture
techniques. We conduct individual and group
critiques, PowerPoint lectures and individual
work time. We encourage you to bring reference materials, collage materials, photographs,
text, recycled images, drawings or copies, and
two- and three-dimensional porous and nonporous surfaces and objects.
Faculty: K Rhynus Cesark has her MFA from
Massachusetts College of Art and Design. K
is a studio artist and teacher who works narratively in encaustics and ceramics. She is a
fellowship recipient of the Colorado Council on
the Arts. Currently, she is the Interim Artistic
Director of the Carbondale Clay Center in Colorado. www.krhynuscesark.com

Concept: Engage in an imaginative and physical experience with the powerful domestic
landscape of furniture objects. We explore
work that falls between function and sculpture,
between practical construction and theoretical
ideas. This is a master class where students
gain skills with the material and observe the
faculty working in the studio.
Media & Techniques: We introduce metalworking techniques from the hand hammer and tig
welder to the slip roller. We use drafting, scale
modeling, pattern making, welding, jig making,
forging and abrasives for metal.
Activities: Class time is split between idea
building (discussion, drawing and critique)
and physical building (technical demonstration, design problem-solving and studio work
time). We discuss proportion, ergonomics,
history, material experimentation and design
theory. We have technical demonstrations, critiques and slide presentations that delve into
the ideas of personal and private, intimacy and
performance, ergonomics and play, all exploring the nature of how furniture affects us.
Faculty: Vivian Beer received her MFA from
Cranbrook Academy of Art. Her works have
been shown at Penland Gallery, North Carolina;
Wexler Gallery, Pennsylvania; William Zimmer
Gallery, California. www.vivianbeer.com
