Joshua Davis
Concept: Write your own programs using
Adobe Flash and ActionScript Objects/Classes
to create interactive and animated compositions. Advance your basic Flash design skills to
develop working prototypes with processes to
speed production and achieve flexibility.
Media & Techniques: We use Adobe Flash
and ActionScript on Macintosh computers. A
basic understanding of Flash and ActionScript
is essential.
Activities: We hold daily demonstrations of
the different features of ActionScript, conduct
hands-on exercises, provide one-on-one help
and complete a small project.
Faculty: Joshua Davis is a New York-based artist, designer and technologist producing both
public and private work for companies, collectors and institutions. Since 1995 Joshua Davis

Video Poetry
Concept: From the silent era to the MTV age,
filmmakers, poets and other artists have harnessed the power of film to express their visions
of the world. Explore the genre of the visual
poem and then create your own film alchemy
blending visual, aural and textual elements in an
original work of video art. Students also explore
and deconstruct the work of experimental film
and video artists to better understand how cinema expresses abstract ideas.
Media & Techniques: Students shoot with digital video cameras to capture audio and visual
elements then edit their work in Final Cut Pro.
Activities: We have screenings and discussions of experimental video and films, make
pitches of student work for group feedback,
gather original image and sound elements and
edit our work. We provide one-on-one and
group feedback and the course culminates
with the screening of the final work.
