envision!
Media & Techniques: Students shoot with digital cameras, process with Adobe Lightroom
and print digitally on Epson printers.

process images. The instructor conducts critiques of student work throughout the week to
improve creative, compositional and processing skills.

Concept: Carry your passion for black & white
photography to the digital darkroom and create gallery-quality prints that successfully present your photographic vision to the world. At
every stage in the capture, edit and print workflow you are faced with numerous decisions
that have a cumulative impact on the technical quality and communicative power of your
image. Identify and employ the most appropriate hardware, software and media choices to
create expressive and long-lasting prints.
Media & Techniques: We use advanced editing techniques in Adobe Lightroom and Adobe
Photoshop; Epson inkjet printers; fine art
papers; monitor and printer calibration/profiling; image evaluation; tints and split-toning;
advanced image editing with layer masks; capture and output sharpening.
Activities: There is instruction on the digital
workflow in both Lightroom and Photoshop, and
portfolio reviews. Students apply demonstrated
techniques to their own images during supervised editing sessions. The instructor works to
give each student individual attention.
Faculty: Amadou Diallo is a photographer, educator, digital imaging consultant, and author

Media & Painting:
digital techniques
Concept: Use traditional and cutting edge digital resources to create your work. Join subjects
and approaches to painting with multiple layers
of painting, drawing, digital images and collage.
We encourage you to develop your own iconography from nature, online research, portraiture,
architecture and other subjects of interest.
Media & Techniques: Students use mixed
media, including painting, collage and digital
images.
Activities: We meet in the digital media lab
and painting studio, working with small-scale
collages of digitally captured images and elements. Then we reconstruct images from
books, magazines and other media to form the
foundation for mixed-media paintings.
Faculty: Roberto Juarez is a painter, printmaker and public artist who earned his BFA at
the San Francisco Art Institute and did graduate work at UCLA. His interest in the traditions of Hispanic and nonwestern painting and
decorative arts fuses with his influential New
York City environment to create paintings that
intermingle imagination and personal memory.
Art-North Miami held a mid-career survey in
2004. He is a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and the American Academy in Rome
prize. His work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Los Angeles County
Art Museum, the Denver Art Museum and the
Kemper Art Museum.
