Tom Burckhardt & Fred Tomaselli
Diana Cooper
Skill Level: IV, portfolio review required
Skill Level: III
Concept: Work at your own pace in the studio
on original work, pausing daily for a 45-minute
to one-hour discussion and critique. Topics are
in-depth and wide-ranging including technique,
concept and approach.
Concept: Explore the relationship between
drawing and the third dimension. Drawing is
treated as a circular path rather than a oneway street leading into the three-dimensional
world. We investigate work in sculpture and
installation to challenge and reinvigorate their
relationships to drawing and vice versa.
Skill Level: II
Media & Techniques: We emphasize the vital
role materials play in the making of art, provoking us to think about why we choose the
materials we do and how they reflect our conceptual and visual concerns.
Media & Techniques: Acrylic paint is preferred due to time limitations, unless oil is
your usual medium.
Studio Critique
Media & Techniques: Although primarily a painting class, we encourage participation by sculptors, photographers, media artists and others.
Activities: Students work in the studio on
original work. Faculty visits take place each
day for 45 minutes to an hour, but students are
expected to work the entire class time.
Faculty: Tom Burckhardt works in New York City.
Recent shows include Caren Golden Fine Art and

Sculpture, Williams College and Montclair State
University, among others. He is the recipient of
