LUNCHTIME AUCTIONETTES Jenna Goldberg, Falling Leaves Sylvie Rosenthal, Birdie Suite August 9 - 20 August 23 - September 3 and embellishments fun and simple Jenna Goldberg    Sylvie Rosenthal    Skill Level: II - IV Skill Level: I - III Concept:  Incorporate and experiment with color while carving in wood. Students create small objects (such as mirror frames or band saw boxes) to use as their “canvas”. We make sample boards to explore the different possibilities of surface embellishment. There are discussions on color theory as well as demonstrations using different paints, mixing color, embellishing surfaces and finishing. Concept:  Welcome to woodworking! Explore simple, classic and experimental construction in wood, beginning with how wood works and its material properties. Cut, join and build using half-laps and mortise and tenon joinery. Experiment with chance, push, pull, and how-far-willit-go-before-it-breaks. We open new windows, assess chance, cross the line and come back using history and tradition as our guides, yet also breaking new ground. Mirrors & Boxes: possibilities Media & Techniques: We work in wood, painting, carving and conceptualizing. We explore different ways of decorating wood. A variety of woodworking techniques and safe practices are emphasized. Activities:  There are daily demonstrations; we paint and carve sample boards, construct mirror frames and band saw boxes, learn how to sharpen chisels and carving tools, explore a variety of finishes. In addition to technical demonstrations, we discuss machine safety. faculty: Jenna Goldberg has a BFA in illustration from University of the Arts in Philadelphia and studied furniture design at San Diego State University and The Genoa School. She received her MFA in Furniture Design from RISD. Currently, she is an instructor in the Industrial Design Department at RISD. Jenna is represented in the permanent collections of the Renwick Gallery and the Mint Museum of Craft and Design.
