Screen Printing for Teens: musically inspired
Johanna Mueller
Ages: 13 to 17 / 10 am - 4 pm
Tuition: $575 / Studio Fee: $75
Code: R0202 Enrollment Limit: 10
SKILL LEVEL: Open to all
CONCEPT: Rock and roll wouldn’t be the same without the images it has
inspired over time. This class creates screen printed posters and t-shirts
in the style of classic rock band memorabilia. We learn compositional
skills to design images and use squeegees to print ink through a screen
onto fabric or paper. Johanna demonstrates how to register multiple
colors, compose graphic designs and practice printmaking skills. Fun for
all with lots of finished posters and t-shirts by the end of the week!
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Water-based screen printing techniques with
tools, paper and fabric.
ACTIVITIES: Each day, students design and print in selected media, building up from single-color formats to more complex, multi-color prints.
Some casual discussions and critiques, with emphasis on active work
and experimentation with screen printing methods.
FACULTY: Johanna Mueller is a previous artist-in-residence and the current
studio coordinator of painting and printmaking at Anderson Ranch. She holds
an MFA in printmaking from George Mason University. She is represented
by Gildar Gallery and Gallery Leon in Denver and the Croft Gallery in Waco,
Texas. Her work is featured in private and public collections worldwide.

Design Your Deck: skateboard creations
Ages: 13 to 17 / 10 am - 4 pm
Tuition: $575 / Studio Fee: $75
Code: W0608 Enrollment Limit: 10
SKILL LEVEL: Open to all
CONCEPT: Ollie into this workshop and make a major statement the next
time you ride! This experience is for skateboard enthusiasts of all types
who want to add that unique edge to their boards. We begin by looking
at skateboard designs and then transfer our own ideas with special paint
onto our own decks. After adding wheels, grip tape and final assembly,
we road test our one-of-a-kind creations.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Plywood, glue, paint, griptape and stickers.
We design and build our own skateboard deck. We first glue up the
deck, cut the shape on the bandsaw, profile the edges, sand, finish
and ride! Trucks and wheels not included.
ACTIVITIES: While we watch skate movies playing in the background,
we discuss totally awesome skateboard decks and the importance of
helmets.
FACULTY: Jason Schneider received his MFA in Furniture Design from
San Diego State University in 2004. He has lectured at many colleges
and woodworking clubs throughout the country. His work has been featured in woodworking books and magazines and exhibited nationally.
Jason is the studio coordinator of the Furniture Design and Woodworking program at Anderson Ranch.
