Honey Hive
Ages: 9 to 12 / 9 am - 3 pm
Tuition: $425 / Studio Fee: $20
Code: K0303 Enrollment Limit: 15
Explore the study of natural organisms through
the art of creativity! The intricacy of the beehive and the hardworking bees that create its
architectural structure inspire us as we make
pieces from melted wax, watercolor and other
mediums. From architect Buckminster Fuller’s
geodesic dome to the encaustic paintings of the
ancient Egyptians, we take these systems and
put them to use in the studio, incorporating science, structure, nature and art into magnificent
shapes and forms.
Shawna Moore is an established, professional
painter and encaustic artist living in Whitefish,
Mont. She exhibits her work nationally in galleries and regional museums.
Nicole Nagel Gogolak holds an MFA in fiber
arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She
is a local artist who works in encaustic and
mixed media.

A photographic portrait can be a single face or
a revealing detail captured 100 different ways.
Creatively using light, framing, emotion, timing
and point of view can open up new ways of
seeing and photographing people. In this workshop we explore inspired, fun ways to capture
revealing, compelling photographic portraits.
We then transform our work into digital formats using photo-editing software, making
portraits that run the gamut from thoughtful to
whimsical. Your family album will never be the
same!
Kate Lapides’ work as a documentary photographer has taken her around the globe to photograph for organizations such as Save the Children and the International Rescue Committee.
She is a two-time recipient of an Individual Artist
grant from the Colorado Council on the Arts.

One of the oldest and most common bead
weaving techniques found in cultures around
the world is known as “netting.” In this fun
class, students explore two different netting
techniques from the Ukraine. We make necklaces from glass seed beads and bugle beads
by weaving with needle and thread. There are
many vibrant colors of beads to choose from
and each necklace created is a unique, one-ofa-kind creation students can be proud of.
Wendy Ellsworth has been beading since
1970. She helped set up an artist-in-schools
program in Colorado and teaches classes
nationally and internationally to all ages. She
writes articles for the leading bead magazines
and exhibits her work in galleries across the
U.S. Her book, “Beading - the Creative Spirit,”
was published by SkyLight Paths.
