CONCEPT: Color can make a scene look beautiful, curious, sexual, or even clinical. Explore
the world of color in this workshop, designed
to help digest, interpret, transcend, and bring
color—realistic, true color—into a photograph.
Through artist presentations, slide lectures tracing the history of color photography, field trips
and interactive exercises, we explore the emotional state, human psyche and energy associated with color while pushing our boundaries
of expression. Additional emphasis is focused
on the study of light as it relates to the exploration of beauty in a color photograph. We look
at the way light falls on a chosen subject by
investigating time of day, color temperature,
natural vs. artificial, and the use of studio lighting to create mood.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Digital SLR cameras,
Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop and digital printing.
ACTIVITIES: Daily one-on-one and group discussions, essays and film with a special focus
on color, critiques, making images, dawn and
dusk shooting. Studio time for editing, developing and printing images. Significant time is
devoted to the creation of new work through
field trips to surrounding locales.
