This workshop explores interactions between the form and surface qualities of ceramic objects. We employ a variety of techniques—handbuilding, wheel throwing and mold making—to devise and test surface treatments. Our objective is to accentuate, decorate and communicate a range of different ideas. We start with the brush, move into underglazes, inglazes and overglazes, then explore atmospheric firing methods to enhance the interplay between structure and design. Media & Techniques: We sample a large variety of ceramic processes, introducing new techniques while reinvigorating traditional methods. Stoneware and porcelain. Handbuilding, throwing and mold making. Cone 10 atmospheric, reduction and oxidation kilns. Slips, underglazes, decals and china paints. Jason Walker, Untitled Jason Walker received his MFA from Penn. State University. His work is in numerous collections, including the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco and the Carnegie Mellon Museum in Pittsburgh. He is currently represented by the Ferrin Gallery and works as a studio artist in Washington state.   www. jasonwalkerceramics.com   Ralph Scala is the coordinator of the Ceramics Studio at Anderson Ranch.
