Concept: Color exists both as physical fact
and optical illusion. The experience of color
in perception is momentary and temporal; it
is nearly impossible to remember, represent
or reproduce. Yet we believe in color’s tangibility. This workshop explores the use and
control of color through collage and acrylic
painting on paper. Participants investigate
color’s power and deceptive relativity through
a series of structured and open-ended observational exercises.
Concept: Portraits reflect their political and
social context like any other genre, and have
functioned as talismans of power, wealth and
vanity. Yet portraits can also be intimate personal revelations. This workshop explores portraiture in all its guises. We consider portraiture
of the past as well as contemporary portraiture, everyone from Velásquez to Cindy Sherman. Projects include full-length self-portraits,
