Concept: Let the chips fly as you explore spindle
turning with kiln-dried wood! With smooth buttery shavings falling away, we turn fresh green
wood into useful bowls. Students take home
three to five finished projects and a solid understanding of basic woodturning techniques.
Concept: Advance your skills in bowl and vessel making guided by an internationally recognized master. Use advanced tool methods and
turning techniques to experience the uniquely
dynamic, body-mind process of woodturning.
Concentrated studio time is combined with
lively discussions of craft and design issues to
inspire a deeper understanding of this distinctive creative process.
Woodturning for Beginners
Media & Techniques: Green and dry wood;
spindle (between-center) and bowl turning;
and a variety of added textures and finishing techniques.
Activities: After a brief introduction to the
tools and techniques of woodturning, students
receive a short overview of safe working habits
with demonstrations and discussions of how
turned objects are used in daily life. Slide talks
explore the potential of these objects. We spend
a majority of our time on individual projects.
Faculty: Jason Schneider received his MFA in
Furniture Design from San Diego State University in 2004. He exhibits his work nationally.
In 2010, Jason was an artist in the traveling
furniture show, Studio Furniture: The Next
Generation. He has lectured at many colleges
and woodworking clubs throughout the country and has been published in a nu
